Public
Information, Education and Relations
(PIER)
PIER is one of the core services for Lee County EMS and
is being developed on a continual basis in conjunction with the State EMS Plan and the national PIER program.
The goal of PIER is to provide up-to-date information to the citizens and
visitors of Lee County, so they may be aware of their EMS system and have access
to information and education to enhance their daily living. PIER is very
dynamic and has several programs which are being utilized on a constant basis.
Examples include:
- Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Training
throughout Lee County. Lee County EMS is currently
using the American Heart Associations Heartsaver program as the basis for its instruction.
- Lee County EMS serves as the administrative arm for Lee County Public Access Defibrillation Ordinance and Program.
- Howee & Company - Lee County EMS's remote
controlled ambulance robot. Howee Care is used in education programs for pre-K
to about 5th grade. He carries safety,
injury prevention and 911 messages through music and interactive communication
with young children. Howee Care has proven to be a valuable asset to the
PIER Program.
- Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspections - Lee County EMS has a
CPS Technician
on staff.
Their technical skills, experience, and knowledge on the proper installation
and use of child safety seats are necessary for the conduct of child
safety seat inspections at permanent sites, special clinics, and
mobile inspection units. The requirement for re-certification ensures
that they are kept apprised of the technological changes and Federal
regulations that affect the correct installation of child safety
seats.
- Speakers Bureau - Should you need a speaker
or presentation for your organization or civic club. A couple of the many programs that EMS speaks on include "Public
Access Defibrillation (PAD)" and "Make The Right Call", a
nationally recognized program to improve the use of 911 system through proper
education.
Components include: Who To Call, When To Call, When Not
To Call, What To Do Until Help Arrives.
- Ambulance Tour - If you are interested in having an EMS ambulance and crew visit your school or summer program, these visits can be scheduled in advance. The ambulance crew can discuss the EMS systems and the services they deliver when calling 9-1-1.
For further information or to schedule an event, contact Lee County EMS at (239)
